Seismology to High-speed-railway seismology

ABSTRACT

This course traces how Chinese scientists pio-neered an emerging discipline - High-SpeedRailway Seismology - embodying original in-novation rooted in the motherland.

The vibrations generated by speeding high-speedtrains were once regarded as noise. Throughin-depth research by scientists, such vibrationshave been transformed into a new type of greenseismic source, laying the foundation for the es-tablishment of the new discipline of high-speedrailway seismology.

Seismic waves triggered by high-speed trainspropagate through media with diverse propertiesand scales, including artificial solids, loose soiland crystalline rock. The local deformation mech-anisms are highly complex and variable, whichcannot be fully explained by traditional Newto-nian mechanics or continuum mechanics.

Based on the actual interaction between theground, underground media and viaduct pilefoundations, seismologists have developed thegeneralized continuum mechanics theory and de-rived asymmetric wave equations. The profoundinsights within are worth careful appreciation.

本课程追溯中国科学家如何开创高速铁路地震学这一新兴学科,彰显立足祖国大地的原始创新。高速列车疾驰产生的振动曾被视为噪声,而经过科研人员的深入研究,这类振动被转化为一种新型绿色震源,为高速铁路地震学这一新学科的建立奠定了基础;由高速列车激发的地震波在人工结构体、松散土体、结晶岩等不同性质与尺度的介质中传播,其局部变形机理极为复杂多变,传统牛顿力学或连续介质力学均无法对其作出完整解释,为此,地震学科研人员立足地表、地下介质与高架桥桩基之间的真实相互作用,发展出广义连续介质力学理论并推导出非对称波动方程,其中蕴含的深刻见解值得细细研读体会。

Former Dean of the School of Information Scienceand Technology, Beijing University of ChemicalTechnology.

Over 20 years of engaging in the R&D of commer-cialized MEMS industrial products, Professor YuDuli has secured 15 U.S. patents. After returningto China, he has obtained 4 Chinese patents andheld 4 granted U.S. patents.

As a leading scholar who has made remarkablecontributions to Chinas advanced manufacturingindustry for decades, he was awarded the title ofStrategic Scientist of Beijing in 2019.

曾任北京化工大学信息科学与技术学院院长的俞度立教授从事商业化 MEMS 工业产品研发二十余年,拥有 15 项美国专利,回国后又取得 4 项中国专利并持有 4 项已授权美国专利,作为数十年来为我国先进制造业作出突出贡献的领军学者,他于 2019 年被授予北京市战略科学家称号。
